Health & Wellness

Why do I believe in well-being?

I wish I could tell you that I’ve spent years traveling abroad, sailing the Caribbean or hiking the rain forest but truth is, I’ve never done any of those things. I found myself in a variety of jobs through my formative years  which taught me to appreciate many people from all walks of life.  I think my  favorite job was being a Wedding Photographer. I engaged in that line of work for almost 14 years.  It allowed me to travel to many places and meet all kinds of people and at the same time capture “beautiful moments.”  I use to tell people when I was younger that I wasn’t sure what I wanted to be when I grew up but truth is over time, i’ve learned that the thing you really want to be when you grow up is “HAPPY”.  Be Happy, Be Healthy and Be Authentic and allow God to BE the center of your life.

Happy shows up sometimes even in the things that can break your heart.

I was the  over-seer for my parent’s health care for seven years. During that time  I saw first hand many changes in our healthcare system and with that came a wide range of emotions and obstacles.

What really began to bother me was the attitude of some of the physicians, their resistance to consider natural remedies and/or holistic approach and the use of small changes in daily life to help one’s health.  I began to see a lot of changes when it came to aging issues and doctors.   It seemed their only “next step” was hospice. I won’t get on a bandwagon there cause long term is sometimes needed BUT it sure isn’t always the first line of defense.

It challenged me to gather information, seek education and see how I might make positive changes for those I cared for, would care for in the future and my own families health.

I’ve always been an advocate for Health and Wellness. I believe in a whole body/mind approach to excellent health that includes real food, real faith and finding the real YOU.

My desire to stay healthy was first sparked by a job I had many many years ago  where I managed a ladies health salon. We had a variety  of equipment for them to work-out with but my favorite part was the aerobic class we taught every hour on the hour throughout the day.  I took dance in my younger years for about 12 years and played sports in school.  Being Active was the name of the game. I’ll let you in on a little secret. Just for fun sometimes I just  Dance.  (yes still) You know the saying, “dance like no one is watching”. WELL that’s what I do. ( and yes the music is turned up loud ) ha

I know what it’s like to burn the candle at both ends and find yourself in a place of total overload and exhaustion. I know what it is like to allow self-care to go by the way side and allow your spiritual tank to  run low on fuel when you’re burning the candle at both ends.  Caring  for my  parents,  facing the death of my mother then my sister a couple years later, then losing my step-father and then the unexpected death of my husband took a toll on me.  It was during that time that I had to so call “hunker down”.  I had to  drown out the noise of the world and find a way to be okay with all the loss and yet stay healthy and whole myself.   I was shown an acronym JED… It stood for Jesus, Exercise and Diet. All those things had been put on the back-burner in my life while caring for others. ( and yes I would do it again in a minute)  I created a simple plan and began to work on my relationship with each of those things again.  It led me on a journey to discover new  natural ways to remedy health issues, formulating  quiet time and everyday finding time  to write, read and pray consistently.    I met some new friends along the way that were like minded in health and wellness  and began some new habits. Ones I still cling to today.

My first piece of advice is to keep yourself moving in some way everyday.

My Qualifications

I am a  Certified Christian Yoga Instructor registered with the Yoga Alliance. RYT-200 Yoga Instructor with mucho hours of teaching. It took me some time to research where I wanted to train and to find out exactly what they were teaching. I ended up doing  my training with YOGA FAITH. They are well known for their spiritual teaching, their love of God and their ability to break down the use of yoga poses and have that teaching centers itself on Christ. I learned more  about   breath work and how important it is. The very breath that God gave to each of us. There is simply something amazing about  praising GOD on a yoga mat while listening to a Christian artist sing about God’s love and mercy.  I continued  my yoga training by completing  my training in Trauma Sensitive Yoga Teacher Training. This gives me more tools to work with clients who have fallen victim to trauma in many ways.   I created yoga classes for  those with PTSD, anxiety, depression and more.  I also completed additional continued education with Living Soul Institute where I gathered another  40 hours of yoga training on Resilience… Pain Science through the mindset of Christ.  What an honor to be the hands and feet of Jesus to a hurting world. I was blessed to open and own Hunky Dory Yoga Studio where I taught 7 classes a week for three years . Myself and Women of many ages met on our mats through-out the week to heal our  bodies, stretch our minds and strengthen our faith.   We gave GOD all the glory. I currently participate in daily/weekly Yoga practice and substitute teach when needed at the Baptist Health-Plex in Madison, MS   I find that it not only strengthens your body but it also helps with balance, muscle tone and mental clarity.

I am also a graduate of the Institute of Integrative Nutrition and am certified by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners as a Health Coach. I take these certifications and use them alongside my spiritual gift of encouragement to help people like yourself improve their overall health and well being, both physically and spiritually.

Do you know that you can find yourself in  a place in life where the only person you have to depend on is GOD? When everyone else walks away he is still there. He never moves… we do. He is waiting patiently to wrap his arms around us and love us and comfort us like no other.

I’d love the opportunity to help you be your happiest, healthiest, authentic self. “How will you do that”, you ask: ONE ON ONE COACHING…
